April 28th, 2008Amazing Asa Di Vaar

I came across this amazing Asa Di Vaar sung by the Akal Academy Bibi Jatha =) simply amazing. its all in classical raag with classical stringed instruments. i remembered about 2 years back the bhen jis were directed to learn tanti saag, its so amazing to feel their josh and shakti in their keertan, i advise you not to play this if you are trying to sleep after sadhana, because the naad will keep you up =)… also at the end they sing the shabad Jagat Jalanda Rakh Layee,

it was really amazing, so i chopped that and made it another downloadable file. I also chopped up their anand sahib out of the Asa Di Vaar and made that in to a mp3 as well.

I thought i’d share with everyone one of my favorite shabds. i know a lot of people have been going through some crazy times. A lot of singhs and kaurs have been going through their “Kathia DukH Bukh Sadh Maar Eh Bhe Daat Tayree Dataar” stages of their spirituality.
alot of sangat i’ve spoken to has noticed that time has been speeding up and picking up, i started noticing it in the fall of 2004 or was it 2002, actually and nowadays everything is so crazy and the world is getting more nuts and people are getting more neurotic and just odd.

however this shabad always has a way of centering me and letting my soul…
i just located one of my favorite Gurbani CDs, it was by the “Jatha”… the Baru Sahib Bibia Di Jatha…. it was one of their first Cds i think…. incidentally enough it featured “Tu Kahey DHolay Prania” and it was the name of the CD as well.
Now i remember why i loved this Cd so much, it was right after the first year of the Akal International Gurmat Youth Camp back in 2004, and we had just returned from our Yatra from Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib…. a few of us campers decided to give our heads to Kalgidhar Paadhsha, and receive his Khand Di Phul… I remembered i was so scared because i could barely read Jap Ji… and i asked Nirmal Bhen Ji “what should i do, i know when i go back to America, Sikhi isn’t going to be as easy, amrit velas are going to be hard, sangat isn’t going to be supportive… i’ll be alone and missing Baru Sahib and Baba ji soo much…”
Nirmal Bhen Ji just looks at me and smiles and says;”Gurvinderpal when ever you are feeling alone or missing baru sahib, just listen to these….” Then she opens up a locker and hands me 5 Cds of the Jatha, there were 3 Dhaadi Vaar Cds, one Nitnem Cd (which completely saved me), and this gurbani raag Cd….

so whenever i hear this shabad my Ego Shuts up and i just start up my sunnia and mannia and just placed back in to baru sahib and just reminded of the love and awesome “divine energy” hehe =) and oh ya of baba ji too =) anyways i thought i would share this with everyone =)

words of advice, if you want to meditate, just sit in easy pose with hands in prayer pose, or apply gyan mudra on both hands and just breath deeply. Also if you are doing Su Darshan Chakar Kriya or any pranayama i recommend listening to this shabad, and as you inhale just remind your self… that these breathes God gives you, Thy Gives you Prana (the divine breath, so breathe in)

January 16th, 2008Azure Salver

this past winter solstice, i bought Snatam Kaur’s Live In Concert album.  I haven’t had a real chance to listen to it, but one day when i woke up a little later than usual, i started playing Azure Salver, get it on iTunes, i had no idea what that meant.  but as i heard the lyrics i realized that it was Keertan Sohila and with in Aarti paath, the shabad.  Some how i remember when i was little my mother would always read to my Kirtan Sohila paath before going to bed, and i would ask her what was going on?  So she would gracefully brake down the Gurmukhi and give me the english translation.  It made so much sense, but one part that i never understood was this line…..

shs qv nYn nn nYn hih qoih kau shs mUriq nnw eyk quohI ]
sehas thav nain nan nain hehi thohi ko sehas moorath nanaa eaek thuohee ||
Thousand are your eyes, yet you have no eyes.
Thousand are your Forms yet you have no Form.

So i always thought that made no sense, and i didn’t think much of it, then i remember one time during freshman year in college, a punjabi hindu friend of mine, started telling me that you Sikhs, worship God like it was an idol.  Then i asked them how’s that?  They told me that, “Guru Nanak said that God has a thousand noses… ” i was caught off guard then they told me as a child their mother used to read them keertan sohila….

but i knew that Guru Nanak Dev Ji didn’t mean that literally that God has a thousand noses, but then when i was listening to Snatam Kaur Ji’s recital of this bani, some how i tuned into her scared space of when she was singing this then it made perfect sense!  it caught me off guard, but now it makes sense…
perfect Sense…
So what Guru Nanak Dev Ji is saying when he says “Thousand are your noses yet you have no nose” simply  means that every single being is You!!! that you are a part of everyone and creation however still you are your own.  it made so much sense!!!  i was like whoaa that makes so much sense… i thought i’d let yall know =)
