A month back, the Baru Sahib Jatha and Baba Iqbal Singh Ji did keertan and the Tucker Gurdwara. It was amazing and the Jatha even did Dhaadhi vaar, I did the recordings off my iphone, so it took me a while to transfer the files off my phone, but i finally was able to do it. Below is Baba Ji’s katha on Haumani and attachment, its mainly in punjabi but there is some english and you can still understand it :)

BTW links have been correctly updated, i apologize for any earlier errors

here is something that i fell in love with at Baru Sahib… its the cure all for any illness you have, and i swear by it. its Lassan Lassi, oh yes that’s right, Garlic Milkshake. even though this sounds disgusting, it has a rather a highly acquired taste, only for the most sophisticated of pallets, would enjoy this.

I learned this recipe and experienced it  many times during the 2nd year of the Akal Gurmat Camp, i had arrived to camp a week earlier to help out, but i remember i fell ill, and tried traditional western meds in india, but alas they did  no work. Then Inderjit Veer Ji decided to put my out of my misery, and took me to Baba ji’s room and then he told a sevadhar to make us to Lassan lassis. When it came to me i remember that it had a rather strong smell, and made my stomach churn but i saw him take it down, and then i was like ok “Sat Naam” and just chucked it. i almost threw it back up, but by the grace of the Guru, it stayed down. Then for the next 6 hours i was knocked out, but when i woke up i felt great, but of course i smelled like garlic, and so did my clothes. I also remember i would drink those lassan lasis just so that i’d be able to go to Baba Ji’s room, and of course the sevadhaar, Charanjeet Bhen Ji knew why i was there, and Baba Ji would look at me and i knew he’d think “oh you clever boy”… :) but yea i fell in love with lassan lassi, and till this day whenever i feel a hit of a flu or know everyone else around me is getting sick i just make one. Or even a change in the weather, i drink one. However being a bachelor, and living by myself, i usually dont have yogurt on me, so i just eat the garlic raw.

Here is the recipe for Lassan Lasi: garlic

Ingredients:
• 2-3 cloves of Garlic (chopped up)
• 1/2 – 3/4 cup of yogurt
• 1/2 of milk (whole)
•1/3 tsp – black salt
•1/3 tsp – pepper
•1/2 tsp – cayenne pepper
Blender

Directions
1. Chop up garlic.
2. add yogurt and garlic in blender, and blend
3. add milk to yogurt and garlic, and continue to blend
4. put then add the spices above.
5. drink, while drink feel free to pinch your nose

ALSO Note: i’ve tried doing soymilk but its too watery, and
the water makes the garlic taste worse!!!, also try to get
Indian Yogurt aka Dhaee, it taste better than American Milk.
Also if you ever want your space, during your marriage,
drink one of these, and your spouse won’t come anywhere near
you, and the more you reek of garlic, the more toxic you are.
and the garlic helps with other stuff too like here is an NYT blog
about it

Finally even though this taste gross, its totally worth it,
cause you do not have any side effects from the meds
and its all natural :) you may have to have a chaser,
like more yogurt or something sweet like ice cream just to help
with the taste.

hope it helps

April 28th, 2008Amazing Asa Di Vaar

I came across this amazing Asa Di Vaar sung by the Akal Academy Bibi Jatha =) simply amazing. its all in classical raag with classical stringed instruments. i remembered about 2 years back the bhen jis were directed to learn tanti saag, its so amazing to feel their josh and shakti in their keertan, i advise you not to play this if you are trying to sleep after sadhana, because the naad will keep you up =)… also at the end they sing the shabad Jagat Jalanda Rakh Layee,

it was really amazing, so i chopped that and made it another downloadable file. I also chopped up their anand sahib out of the Asa Di Vaar and made that in to a mp3 as well.

tu-kahey-dholay.jpg

I thought i’d share with everyone one of my favorite shabds. i know a lot of people have been going through some crazy times. A lot of singhs and kaurs have been going through their “Kathia DukH Bukh Sadh Maar Eh Bhe Daat Tayree Dataar” stages of their spirituality.
alot of sangat i’ve spoken to has noticed that time has been speeding up and picking up, i started noticing it in the fall of 2004 or was it 2002, actually and nowadays everything is so crazy and the world is getting more nuts and people are getting more neurotic and just odd.

however this shabad always has a way of centering me and letting my soul…
i just located one of my favorite Gurbani CDs, it was by the “Jatha”… the Baru Sahib Bibia Di Jatha…. it was one of their first Cds i think…. incidentally enough it featured “Tu Kahey DHolay Prania” and it was the name of the CD as well.
Now i remember why i loved this Cd so much, it was right after the first year of the Akal International Gurmat Youth Camp back in 2004, and we had just returned from our Yatra from Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib…. a few of us campers decided to give our heads to Kalgidhar Paadhsha, and receive his Khand Di Phul… I remembered i was so scared because i could barely read Jap Ji… and i asked Nirmal Bhen Ji “what should i do, i know when i go back to America, Sikhi isn’t going to be as easy, amrit velas are going to be hard, sangat isn’t going to be supportive… i’ll be alone and missing Baru Sahib and Baba ji soo much…”
Nirmal Bhen Ji just looks at me and smiles and says;”Gurvinderpal when ever you are feeling alone or missing baru sahib, just listen to these….” Then she opens up a locker and hands me 5 Cds of the Jatha, there were 3 Dhaadi Vaar Cds, one Nitnem Cd (which completely saved me), and this gurbani raag Cd….

so whenever i hear this shabad my Ego Shuts up and i just start up my sunnia and mannia and just placed back in to baru sahib and just reminded of the love and awesome “divine energy” hehe =) and oh ya of baba ji too =) anyways i thought i would share this with everyone =)

words of advice, if you want to meditate, just sit in easy pose with hands in prayer pose, or apply gyan mudra on both hands and just breath deeply. Also if you are doing Su Darshan Chakar Kriya or any pranayama i recommend listening to this shabad, and as you inhale just remind your self… that these breathes God gives you, Thy Gives you Prana (the divine breath, so breathe in)

February 12th, 2008Bhai Pardeep Singh Ji’s Katha

So I just finished listening to another awesome Katha, this one is by Pardeep Singh Ji, a singh who lives up in Surrey. I was fortunate to meet Bhai Pardeep Singh JI along with Bhai Tejinder Singh Ji three winters ago, here in Atlanta, GA at the Mini Baru Sahib Camp =) they were definitely the highlights of the camp =) such inspirations. Anyways this katha was given at the “Food for the Soul” program done by the youth of British Columbia.

Bhai Sahib the Topics this katha touches on are maya, the soul and kalyug. How once in Kalyug when you feed your soul with Naam an color your being with Divinity you are able to be with Rabh, then Bhai Sahib Ji uses examples of shaheeds and such.
